This is Brecon and his family. I have had the opportunity to photograph this family since Brecon was only a few weeks old. It's been fun seeing him grow up. He still has the same sweet smile.

I loved this expression! He looks so sweet. But we needed smiles too, so after a few of these looks I told him there was a dinosaur in my camera and asked him to look for it.

This is the expression I got! I think he half doubted the dinosaurs and half feared them.

Then I said there was a dog in my camera, that made him laugh.

I'm happy I got a chance to photograph this cute family. Janna is a friend of mine and her little boy, Mack, and my daughter Z are playmates. I loved seeing all their crazy personalities. Boys are so much fun to photograph!

The funniest part was the tourists that took pictures of them too. I'm pretty sure they thought Cory or Janna must be someone important who works on The Hill!

Jordan and Lizzie have been friends their whole life. They wanted to have their pictures taken together because they have turned 8 and they wanted to remember this important time in their life. Lizzie and Jordan go to my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At eight years old they can choose to be baptized as members of the church. Both of them have chosen to be baptized on the same day. Congratulations, Lizzie and Jordan!

Last year I said the bookcase pictures of my daughter Z were the last. I lied. But I didn't mean to do these ones this year. It just happened. She was so cute dressed in her little ballerina outfit (she demanded to wear it) and I had my camera out so I thought, why not?! This is the result of our impromptu photo shoot. It's close enough to her 3rd birthday that I'm counting them as her 3 year pictures!

I had so much fun photographing this little newborn and his big brother.
Finn was so sweet and easy to work with but Owen stole the show. He is ADORABLE! He calls his brother Cakey (sp?) and likes to help. He pretended to be a photographer the whole time and when I showed him a picture of himself on the back of the camera he pointed, stated his full name, and gave it a kiss!

Clemens Family - Northern VA Family Photography Session by Danelle Empey

Megan and Josh - Wedding Photographs by Danelle Empey

I was really excited to photograph Megan on her wedding day. I photographed her older sister about a year ago here at the Washington DC Temple. When Megan's mom called to see if I could make it to Utah for Megan's wedding I was thrilled. So I made sure I planned my family trip around the wedding.

Megan is super cute and she and Josh make an adorable couple. Especially with their green Converse.

It was also a treat to photograph again at the Provo Temple. My parents were married there and we had our daughter "Z" sealed to us there as well. It holds a lot of meaning for us.

The other fun part of this was that my sister Monica was able to come and help me with the photography. She has been photographing for a while now and is really good. We worked really well together and had a lot of fun.

This is a family I have known for a long time. Kim and I met my last year of high school and we became good friends. Her husband, Shane, was really good friends with my brothers, which means I have a lot of stories I could tell about Shane...but I will refrain.

They have two adorable children. Jacob has tons of personality and is all boy. Andi Grace has a strong will and beautiful, big blue eyes. They were a lot of fun to photograph and kept me running the entire time!

I had fun with this cute family. This was the little girl's first time eating a lollipop and she really liked it. And she had quite the sugar high as a result! My favorite quote of the day was from her mom "Well, that's your first and last lollipop until you are 18."

But we got some cute images as a result. I always tell parents that I am not above bribery to get a child to smile and have fun in front of the camera. Whatever works!

Spring in the City - Anderson Family Portraits

My favorite time of year by far is Spring. And Spring in DC is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Everything is in blossom and there is color everywhere. So it's a perfect reason to have family pictures.

This is the Anderson Family with their adorable two year old, Milo. Milo was on the go the whole time but we were able to capture a few of him anyway! The funniest part of the session was the random tourist that stopped us to ask if he could photograph them as well since they were dressed so cute.

Kristina is the dancer I photographed from my "Dance Experiment" photo session a while back. She needed some head shots and I was happy to help. We had fun in the freezing cold! Kristina was a good sport and easy to work with.

I usually don't like to use Photoshop to manipulate images so they look fake. However, sometimes an image requires a little bit of play to bring out certain features, make it dramatic or fun, or to change the mood. This is my sister and her family. They are all so cute! Every year we have to come up with a crazy way to photograph her family since they have a crazy family! This year we thought they needed bribes to sit still and be in a family photo. It worked! And I think we got some great images.

Trujillo Family at Winkler Botanical Garden

I love discovering new places and meeting new people. I found an oasis in the city at the Winkler Botanical Garden in Alexandria. Beautiful place right next to 395. Who knew?

And I got to photograph an adorable family. I love the expressions that I got from each of them. Children are so full of life and happiness, spunk and mischief. I love that I get to see that through my lens and capture those fleeting moments.

Williams Family

This is a seriously beautiful family! I loved each of their children's personalities. The oldest, Eli, wanted to be in front of the camera the whole time and gave me lots of expressions. Easton, the youngest, was so chubby and full of smiles! I could gobble him up! Emerson, the adorable little girl, decided she was shy for the day and wanted only to be next to mom or dad. But regardless of her efforts to hide from the camera, I got my favorite shot of the session from her. Just look at her precious smile! And I dig the boots.

Brides don't come much lovelier than this! Margaret and David were married today, September 18, 2010. I couldn't help but rushing home to look at the images and posting a few of my favorites right away.

My favorite quote of the day was when the bride said she wanted me to photograph her other side because it was her "good side" and the groom said "I didn't know you had a bad one." Aaaa, love!

Mema Family at the National Cathedral

I knew Aubrie and Medlir when I was living in Logan. We were surprised to run into each other out here a few years later. Now, they are on their way to another adventure overseas, but I got the chance to photograph their beautiful family before they left. Dance Experiment

I decided I needed to stretch myself with my photography and go out of my comfort zone. I know a talented young man named Chase who is a dancer and asked if I could photograph him. He brought his friend Christina, also a talented dancer, and we tried out a few things. These are a few of my favorites. I hope to get a chance to practice this some more. It was a lot of fun and I learned a few things for the next time.

My all time favorite subject to photograph is a high school senior. Especially when they come as pretty as Sarah who is not only beautiful but talented and full of personality. I had a lot of fun...and we now know that you have to have a permit to photograph at the Arboretum. Sorry for the run in with the park security officers and the sudden location change! One thing I love about being an on-location photographer is that I never know what I am going to see in people's homes when I am there. In this home I saw a painting by Gustav Klimt, one of my favorite painters, and thought it would make the perfect backdrop for this portrait. I love the outcome! Not only are the subjects beautiful but the relationship is evident. So tender and loving. And George is so adorable!

Sisters, Oh Brother!

Sisters can be your best friend while remaining your best enemy. Add a spunky personality with a few freckles to one sister and a fiesty little head of red hair to the other and you have your hands full! Then throw in a baby brother! This session was full of funny moments, silly faces, and a full range of emotions, but most of all a beautiful family.

My favorite quote from mom to her daughters (because they didn't like sitting so close to each other) was: "Just understand she is going to touch you and you are going to be ok."

Honestly, these are some of the most beautiful girls ever. And a very handsome boy!

Brrrr! It is very cold outside, and with no leaves on trees and no more snow on the ground (at least at the moment I am writing this...) it doesn't make for the prettiest of pictures. That is why I am bringing it indoors!

For the months of January and February you can book a headshot session to capture the quirky personality of your little ones! A one hour session and cd of all edited images, including a digital collage created by me (similar to the ones below) for only *$100!!!

One thing I love about the fall is seeing Nicholas again! I have photographed Nicholas since he was only a year old. His mom, Vera, and I used to work together and we have made this a tradition every year since we met. Usually Vera's mom comes from Austria to join in the photo shoot but this year her trip was planned for the spring instead so I missed her. But I still photograph Nicholas and got see how big he is getting.

Andersons - Sydney, Brynn, and Claire

This is another one of my good friends, Mindy, and her girls from Logan. I remember photographing Sydney as a baby with my little 35mm film camera. I loved those days of black and white on film. Nothing beats it, sorry digital!

Since then Mindy and her husband Shawn have added a few more girls to the mix, and I have been able to photograph each of them as a baby. Each time I visit Utah, we try to squeeze in a little time to photograph and catch up on old times. Here is our recent photo shoot. I love that each of her girls has a unique look to them but still look like sisters.

Here is Sydney. She is so spunky and I love her strawberry blond hair and her freckles. But I still see her as the tiny little baby she used to be! I can't believe how big she is now!

This is Claire. She is so adorable, not to mention stubborn! She wouldn't sit for any group shots, but she gave me some cute looks for her individuals. I love her little innocent face, such a great disguise!

Here is Brynn. She is going to be trouble! She knows how to pose and smile in a way that will melt the coldest heart! I love her!

Andersons - Derek and Cassie

I have known Cassie and Derek Anderson for many years. We became good friends when we lived in Logan, Utah. Derek and my husband, Nicholas, worked at the same jewelry store together. Since then, they moved to California then back to Utah. We have moved to Virginia but we have kept in contact.

This is the first time I have been able to photograph their family! Their family is so cute, I love Joshua's mischevious little face and Katelyn's beautiful blue eyes!

This is my sister, Ann, and her husband, Chris, with their 4 children: Isabel, Elizabeth, Eli and Isaac. After trying to get 4 kids all between ages 30 months and 15 months (as an explanation, families come to us in the most miraculous ways!) to pose with smiles, we resorted to this! We thought it was hilarious, represented their chaotic life, and the kids begged for more "rides".
